If the number of employed is 220,000, the labor forces is 250,000, the number of discouraged workers is 15,000, and the number of underemployed is 15,000. Underemployed workeres are defined as workers who work 36 hours per week but would like to work 40 hours. Calculate the unemployment rate when we include all of this additonal information about our labor force and adjust the unemployment rate to account for this.

I need help on how to include the underemployed workers into the unemployment rate ..

is there a formula for underemployed in the book ? Otherwise it's just the unemployed rate of 15k / 250k x 100 = %

HI SIS ;)

I'LL GIVE YOU A HINT ... THINK IN PROPORTION

NO' NOI' UNDEREMPLOYED CO' TOTAL OF 15,000 PEOPLE

HERE IS THE HINT :

EACH UNDEREMPLOYED PERSON WORKED 4 HOURS LESS THAN A FULLY EMPLOYED PERSON :)

SO IF YOU HAVE 10 UNDEREMPLOYED PERSON ..THAT WOULD TOTAL UP TO 40 HOURS/WEEK = WHICH IS EQUAL TO ONE OUT OF WORK (UNEMPLOYED PERSON)

THINK IN PROPORTION AND MAKE THOSE 4 LOSS HOURS INTO YOUR UNEMPLOYMENT WORKERS TO GET AN RATE ;)

Think about what Snowieflake says... Don't forget the discouraged workers. And if you need the answer... just checked the small prints. :D That's what i think the answer should be. If you have questions about it, just ask. And Snowieflakes will answer it. ;) :y11:

Unemployment rate=(250,000-220,000)/250,000=0.120

Adjusted unemployment rate=(250,000+15,000)-(220,000-(4/40)*15,000)/(250,000+15,000)=0.175

I think underemployed doesn't mean all of those 15000 work exactly 36 hours a week. Average could be 20 hours or less. But there's no formulas for the rate of underE over unE ( like 1 under E count for 3 un E ?) so yours may just work. :y13:

Everything is fine with me. You know, things always goes well with bad people. It's just like weed. So hard to stop them grow! *tries to be a badass* Buuwhahaha! The world belongs to bad people! But, how are you? Still busy cua-ing trai? Married? Children? Dog? Kakaka... Me, i'm busy working. Now that i'm working, can't be up too late that often. :( So we probably aren't online the same time. But i still try to share music. Run to the music section and see my newest upload. ;) Don't know if good music for you, but it sure is catchy! And pretty girls... LOL.

Listen to the English version if you want to know what she sings about. I do like the French version more than the English version, though my French is even worst than my Vietnamese. French is just sec ci! :D
